Sleeping Beauty & Mission to Mercury

Saturday, May 22nd @2pm and 7pm

Join us for an afternoon of dance, Trick or Treating and a true Mexican Celebration!

El Dia de los Muertos is a new original ballet that tells of Mexico’s celebration of the Day of the Dead. Our story is set in our home in Mexico and takes you through the story of us, Juanita and Rosita! After the performance we are having a fiesta in honor of El Dia De los Muertos with tricks, treats, face painting, and a photo booth. All party goers are invited to wear their Halloween finest. Costumes are encouraged! This is a wonderful event for both adults and children alike!

All proceeds support the dancers and community of Dance Theater of Florida.

who:

Dance Theater of Florida

what:

  • Florida School for Dance Education's pre-professional dance company, Dance Theater of Florida, would like to announce their spring dance concert. The company will be presenting Aurora's Wedding, the 3rd act of the Sleeping Beauty ballet and Mission to Mercury, an original contemporary work that celebrates the music of Queen and the life of Freddie Mercury.
  • Aurora's Wedding, is staged and choreographed by Michele Zehner, one of the directors of Dance Theater of Florida.  This production will feature guest artists from Miami City Ballet. Aurora's Wedding is a wonderful way to expose young dancers to the magic of ballet with many familiar fairy tale characters arriving as wedding guests.  It also appeals to the seasoned ballet lovers who will appreciate the stunning costumes and exquisite dancing. The score by Tchaikovsky provides a wonderful backdrop for this time honored story.
  • Mission to Mercury is a fast moving contemporary ballet that pays homage to Freddie Mercury's childhood influences, works with the band Queen, the artistic endeavors after Queen and his advocacy work throughout the world. It is a high energy piece that features choreographic works by Samantha Wilhelm, Jerry Opdenaker and Maria A Konrad, a director of Dance Theater of Florida. This piece has it all.  It is an intimate portrait into Freddie Mercury's music, laughter and sheer joy.
